Jeffrey T. Rodgers, 21, of Orient, was charged Saturday with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department found Rodgers in a sport utility vehicle around 12:25 a.m. after employees of the Beer Vault, 149 W. Columbus Ave., told them the suspect got into an altercation and left while claiming he was going to get a gun and return.
When asked by officers about a gun, Rodgers claimed there was no gun in the vehicle. However, a search found a handgun in a compartment under the front passenger’s seat. A magazine for the weapon containing seven rounds was in a glove box. Each was easily accessible from the driver’s seat, according to officers.
Officers detected an odor of alcohol while talking with Rodgers. He declined to provide a breathalyzer sample but did provide a urine sample when he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

Man resists officers
Jordan L. Brannan, 20, at large, was arrested for resisting arrest and theft around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
He reportedly entered 608 Florence Ave. and stole Indica Philpot’s cellular phone. He fled with it when she would not agree to go with him to another residence to retrieve his possessions.
He was observed entering 717 Euclid St. where officers found and detained him.
The phone was found in his coat along with a computer tablet which belongs to Philpot’s son.
