The Democratic parties of Champaign, Logan and Shelby Counties announced this week that Urbana resident and local business owner, Ted Greek, has filed to run as a write-in candidate in opposition for the 85th Ohio House of Representatives seat against incumbent Rep. Nino Vitale (R-Urbana).
A meet and greet event with the write-in candidate is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, on the outside patio of Depot Coffeehouse, 644 Miami St., Urbana.
A graduate of Wittenberg University with a degree in math, Greek, 36, serves as an operations leader and shares technical expertise as an employee of the architectural firm NBBJ out of their Columbus office.
Additionally, he is a co-owner of the Urbana-area Birch Bark Canoe Livery along the waters of Mad River.
Greek understands the demands of running a small business, including managing staff and changing situations especially during a pandemic, officials from the local democratic parties said.
“While this would be Greek’s first time seeking a political office, he feels his experience as a small business owner pairs well with his leadership expertise in information technology thus making him a unique candidate. Greek will not just listen to the voters of his district but will actually hear what they are saying and represent accordingly,” party members said in a release.
Official platform details will be released shortly from Greek in the upcoming days,
The candidate’s wife, Meghan, as well as their two children Walker, 4, and Wyatt, 2, look forward meeting residents of the district on the campaign trail, even if socially distant with their face coverings.
