Green Hills Community received a $30,000 grant from the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing’s philanthropic affiliate, Ohio Capital Impact Corporation to create a new walking trail in the community.
Phase one of the trail will be built in the spring of 2016. When complete, this trail will be a 3/4 mile trail that is specific to elders’ physical needs.
It will be eight feet wide with 10 rest stops that offer benches for rest and inspirational messages for spiritual reflection. It will be built for walkers, those that use a cane or wheelchairs, and even runners to enjoy. The trail also will offer at least five fitness stations that consider elder joints and mobility, and stations that will cater to those in a wheelchair as well, as reported in previous Examiner articles.
Studies show that elders who are physically, socially and spiritually active have an enhanced quality of life. The goal is for elders at Green Hills and in the community at large to thrive not just survive.
