Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and his wife, Fran, attended the Monday afternoon visitation services of former Bellefontaine mayor Don South, 85, who passed away Feb. 3.
Gov. and Mrs. DeWine, escorted by a small security detail, signed the attendance book, watched a video playing at the service and paid their respects to Mr. South during the visitation at Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation in Bellefontaine, according to funeral home staff.
Also serving as a city councilman from 1972 to 1980 and beginning his time as mayor in 1980, Mr. South resigned from his mayoral post in 1983 to serve as an aide to then-U.S. Congressman Mike DeWine in Washington, D.C.
Mr. South’s funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine.
