Glen E. Myers, 80, of West Liberty, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.
He was born on April 20, 1935, on the family farm outside Lakeview to the late John E. and Sarah F. Barns Myers. He was preceded in death by four brothers, James Everett, Dwight, Gerald, and John Clyde Myers, and a granddaughter, Rachael.
On June 1, 1957, he married the former Nancy L. Puterbaugh in Dayton and she survives along with four children, Sara (Dan) Bratka of Bellefontaine, Leonard Myers of Troy, Randal (Lilly) Myers of Lake Mary, Fla., and Ronald Myers of Centerville; nine grandchildren, Ben, Zac, Nathan, Caleb, Sierra, Amanda, Matthew, Alyssa and Sierra; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Levi and Adalynn; two sisters, Betty Dotson of Toledo and Freda Knight of West Jefferson; a brother, the Rev. Myron (Myra) Myers of Jamestown, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the valedictorian of the 1953 Stokes Local Schools graduating class and also was a graduate of Edison State Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1957 to 1959. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force base in 1999 after 32 years of service as an electronics technician. He enjoyed reading, growing tomatoes and watching TV, especially sci-fi shows and war movies.
Pastor Ronald Irick conducts a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, where visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, and one hour prior to the service. Burial is in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio, where Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445 will conduct military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
