Gladys V. Stockton, 88, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 1:28 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018, at Mary Rutan Hospital. She was born in Bellefontaine on Aug. 13, 1929, to the late Alva Edmond and Esther Louise Clark Hassel.
On June 18, 1950, she married Wayne Earl Stockton and he preceded her in death June 19, 1978. Her siblings, Geraldine Banks, James Edmond Hassel, Charles Richard Hassel and an infant, Alva Hassel, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann (Mickey) Andrews; her sons, Keith (Sherry) Stockton, Scott (Candie) Stockton and Jeff (Lori) Stockton; four grandchildren, Melvin Andrews III, Angela Andrews, Brandon Stockto, and Michael Stockton; and several nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a life member of Grace A.M.E. Church in Bellefontaine, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, communion server, and a member of the church choir. She worked at Westinghouse and at Western Elementary School from 1979 to 2008. In her 29 years, she picked up countless neighborhood kids and provided transportation to school. All who knew Gladys will truly miss her.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Pastor Karen Cane officiates a Celebration of Life graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
