Gladys I. Kerns, 88, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine.
She was born in Bloom Center on Sept.10, 1930, to the late John Elwood and Bertha Mae Spillman Moore.
On Sept. 11, 1950, Gladys married Raymond Paul Kerns in Richmond, Ind., and he preceded her in death June 30, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her half-sister, Pamela Simpson.
Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Paula (Donald) Nash of Huntsville and Jan (Dan) Whetstone of Toddville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Correy Daum, Amanda Daum, Sabina (Bruce) Quint and Paul Michael Klein; six great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Sue (Marvin) Chism of Bellefontaine.
A 1948 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Gladys retired from D.A.B. in 1985 and was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Bellefontaine. Although she was an independent lady who did not often express her deeper feelings, she cared attentively to her family in times of need, particularly during the last two years of Raymond’s life. She enjoyed crocheting and playing piano.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Logan Acres for their quality care of Gladys over the last several months.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, prior to the 6 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Mike Roberts officiating. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty at a later date.
