Gene L. Shuttleworth, 81, of Belle Center, died at 1:58 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at St. Rita’s Hospice, Lima.
He was born in Dayton on March 17, 1935, to the late Ralph and Margaret G. Winkler Shuttleworth. On Oct. 5, 1997, he married Linda Lee Frink Hartman and she survives in Belle Center.
Gene is also survived by his children; grandchildren; brother, Robert (Judi) Shuttleworth of Centerville; and three sisters.
Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran of 20 years and a Navy deep sea diver. During his time, he served on the U.S.S. Albany CA123, U.S.S. Brooke, U.S.S. Kiowa and U.S.S. Macon. He was also the director of the physical plant/maintenance at Ohio Northern University and retired after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, VFW Roundhead Post 8832, AMVETS Post 1994, Navy Fleet Reserve and the American Legion.
A time to celebrate the life of Gene and share memories with the family is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Willard Stout American Legion Auxiliary Post 266 in Belle Center. Burial will be by the family at a later date.
