Pirates make it 4 in a row with rout of Eagles

Riverside used a punishing ground game and a stingy defensive effort to blow out Troy Christian 42-0 in a Three Rivers Conference football game Friday night.
It was the fourth win in a row for the Pirates, who improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the TRC.
“I am really proud of the boys,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “We were a little sloppy in the first half, but we challenged them at halftime and we executed a lot better in the second half.
“Defensively, that was one of our best games of the year. We were flying around and making plays.”
The Riverside defense held Troy Christian (1-5, 1-2) to 109 yards and the Pirates piled up five interceptions.
Offensively, Riverside generated 341 yards, including 225 on the ground.
It was another big night for senior running back Warren Shockey, who had 225 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries.
“We had some injuries with our offensive line early in the season and it took a little while to get the cohesion we were looking for,” said Hodge. “But right now those guys are playing better every week. The game of football is won in the trenches, and when your offensive line is getting better every week that makes your team better.”
The Pirates led 14-0 after one quarter on a 2-yard Shockey touchdown run and an 18-yard TD pass from Myles Platfoot to Simon Godwin. Isaac Bender, who was perfect on the night, knocked both extra points through.
Riverside added a 40-yard TD pass from Platfoot to Godwin in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead at halftime.
The Pirates blew the game wide open with three more touchdowns in the third quarter.
Shockey found the end zone on runs of 1, 3 and 9 yards to close out the scoring.
Platfoot finished 6-of-15 passing for 116 yards. Godwin caught five of those completions for 73 yards and Dominik Stotler added a 43-yard catch.
Picking off passes on defense for Riverside were Stotler, Shockey, Godwin, Tony Robinson and Brice Kauffman.
Stotler also had seven tackles, with one for loss, and a fumble recovery, Skyler Hudson recorded seven tackles, Godwin had four tackles and Ryan Baker had four tackles, including a sack.
Riverside is back in action next Friday at home against Lehman Catholic.
