Jessica R. Robinson, 27, of Springfield, and Elberto DeLeon Jr., 30, of 701 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, each was charged with theft and criminal trespass early Thursday morning after they were apprehended while entering vehicles around Zanesfield and rural Bellefontaine.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:50 a.m. to the area of Valleyview Drive in reference to individuals observing a man entering a vehicle in their driveway. The caller, Deb Peterson, reported that the man ran off and nothing was missing from the vehicle.
On the scene, deputies began following foot tracks through the fresh snow and said the tracks went through several other yards and to several parked vehicles. Also in the vicinity, deputies found foot tracks in the snow in the areas of Sunrise Estates by County Road 29, around Carriage Hill Drive off Township Road 55, and also in the village of Zanesfield.
While in Zanesfield, deputies said a man took off running from them and then got into a vehicle. Deputies located this vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Robinson, and DeLeon was the passenger. Inside the vehicle, deputies found a bookbag with the name “Joel Abbott” written on several items inside.
Deputies then responded to the home of Joel Abbott, 16, and his mother, Amber, at 4786 Bellefontaine St., Zanesfield. Joel said his bookbag containing his laptop was missing from his vehicle, and the bookbag was returned to him from the suspects’ vehicle.
Shoe tracks around Joel’s vehicle were photographed, and deputies said the tread pattern matched the shoes that DeLeon was wearing.
Both Robinson and DeLeon were placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
