A former student and teacher pair shared best of show and reserve wins for their cross stitch picture entries in the Logan County Fair open class needlework competition Saturday.
Sarah Stump and Marjorie Bixler’s paths first crossed many years ago, when Sarah was a student in Mrs. Bixler’s class at Northeastern Elementary.
“Their love of handwork has brought them together again as friends,” needlework organizers said.
Stump received a number of top honors at the contest, also winning Best of Show for a stocking she crafted for her granddaughter She was a busy crocheter and received both Best of Show and Reserve for baby afghans.
Cindy Beach showed off a beautiful wool pillow and Sharon Johnson created a wonderful purse, which caught the judge’s eye.
Joanne Leib Skidmore exhibited an amazing adult sweater, which she knit using 100 percent natural fibers. It was for her late husband, so the win was bittersweet for her. Kim Comer created a work of love for her granddaughter, a sweet Raggedy Ann doll.
“It is always a pleasure to see the hard work and creativity of the exhibitors,” organizers said.
There were many classes with no entries, so others are encouraged to start now creating something to enter in the 2023 Logan County Fair.
