Area residents are invited to find their rhythm Friday when a unique musical duo with jazz and world music, Appalachian banjo and step-dancing backgrounds from Oakland, Calif., presents an afternoon workshop at the Holland Theatre at 4:30 p.m., followed by an evening concert at 7:30 p.m.
LoCo Art is hosting the free workshop Friday, and Director Chris Westhoff said while typically the organization’s programming is open to just local youths, this “Finding the Rhythm Around Us” session featuring the Crosspulse Rhythm Duo of Evie Ladin and Keith Terry will appeal to individuals of all ages.
“Kids can bring their parents or other family members, and adults are welcome to step out to try it out, too. This is a wonderful group to watch and to learn from.
“They present an engaging, active and accessible program and will be teaching participants about body music — how to make music out of anything and everything, with lots of clapping, snapping, shuffling and dance elements. They’ll teach techniques to layer these rhythms to make an interesting piece that’s fun to perform and listen to.”
