John Henry Steffey, 51, of Lakeview, was charged with a felony count of possession of drugs related to a traffic stop about 9:35 p.m. Friday.
An officer of the Washington Township Police Department observed a pickup in the area of U.S. Route 33 near State Route 708 and said the pickup traveled out of the westbound lane into the eastbound lane, moving head-on toward the officer. At the last second, the pickup corrected, returning to the proper lane of travel and avoiding a collision, officers said.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and while speaking with Steffey, officers observed signs of impairment. The defendant was asked out of the vehicle and a consent search was conducted.
Officers located on Steffey’s person a piece of tinfoil containing a white crystal rock inside, suspected to be methamphetamine.
Officers also seized a marijuana bowl in the vehicle and a clear plastic container with a white residue on the driver’s seat, and a clear plastic baggie containing a white crystal residue on the driver’s side floorboard.
Steffey was arrested and transported to Logan County Jail. Officers learned Steffey has prior drug convictions.
