A Columbus man was arrested Saturday for multiple drug and weapons offenses after an 11:20 p.m. traffic stop in the city.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department spotted Kandale L. Harrison, 45, operating a sport utility vehicle in the 300 block of south Main Street and recognized him from past felony incidents.
A records check revealed Harrison’s driving privileges were suspended. The officer followed him to Village Pantry, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., and was joined at the scene by another officer.
Harrison was stopped in the lot and asked to provide identification and proof of insurance. He was not cooperative and was taken into custody for no operator’s license.
Officers searched him and recovered more than $10,000 in cash from his pants pockets and three plastic baggies containing powder cocaine and crack cocaine and a digital scale from an interior pocket of his jacket.
Harrison’s SUV was impounded and officers found a load 9mm handgun in a driver’s door pocket.
The powdered cocaine weighed more than 4.5 grams while the crack cocaine weighed more than 8.5 grams.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail on felony charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine, having weapons under disability, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and carrying concealed weapons.
Harrison’s felony criminal history goes back to 2013, according to records on file with the Logan County Clerk of Courts.
He is currently awaiting a two-day trial set to start Dec. 20 for first-degree felony counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and aggravated possession of drugs; third-degree felony counts of failure to comply with an order or signal of a peace officer, having weapons under disability and tampering with evidence; and fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine.
