James A. Garrett, 71, of Warren Avenue, Russells Point, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and disorderly conduct related to an incident Saturday evening.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department were dispatched about 8:10 p.m. to Main Street in Russells Point after a report of an impaired driver in the McDonald’s drive-thru, 431 E. Main St.
A witness reported that the subject had difficulty ordering and left prior to receiving his food. He reportedly returned a few minutes later and parked sideways in the middle of the driveway at the restaurant.
As officers arrived in the area, a license plate was provided leading them to his residence on Warren Avenue, where they observed the driver in his vehicle. Officers identified the driver as Garrett and noted he was eating a sandwich from the restaurant. They observed that his eyes were glossy, he had slurred delayed speech and an odor of alcoholic beverage.
When asked to perform the standard field sobriety test, Garrett reportedly stumbled around and was uncooperative with officers. He reportedly became irate and verbally abusive with officers and was uncooperative with corrections officers after he was transported to the Logan County Jail.
The defendant refused to submit to a breath test and was placed under an administrative license suspension. He was lodged in the jail.
