Once again this year, the local outdoor market will be supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that will help create a more vibrant atmosphere for customers, educate families about the benefits and affordability of healthy food and make the market more attractive to younger vendors as some longtime producers look to retire, organizers report.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Logan County Farmers’ Market, and everyone is excited about the opening,” said board president Season Wall. “One of our goals for this market season is to make it an ‘experience’ for our patrons. We hope to see more faces each Saturday enjoying camaraderie and sharing with them the amazing things Logan County has to offer.”
“We’re really proud that in this community there is this very vibrant market,” Market Manager Chloe Manor said. “And we’re fortunate to have not only this USDA grant, but the support of our local community as well.”
In addition to the nearly $100,000 two-year grant from the USDA’s Farmers Market Promotion Program, the Mary Rutan Foundation continues to provide $5,400 in support of the Power of Produce program that supplies youths with $2 tokens for produce each week and a Logan County Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up grant for $3,200 to help low-income families double the value of their assistance dollars.
