Ohio Exchange Club District Director Beverly Sewell was in Bellefontaine July 12 to conduct an officer installation ceremony for the Bellefontaine Exchange Club.
The club recognized Kyle Springs and Bridget Hawkins for their many years of leadership, alternating as president and vice president.
Kim Collum’s years of serving as secretary were also acknowledged, along with Bill Boy, who has acted as treasurer for 27 years.
The Bellefontaine Exchange Club was organized 76 years ago. Mrs. Sewell applauded the local Club’s service over the years and also spoke about state and national goals and projects.
The local club is known for providing a flag service project that started in 1951. Members place the American flag in front of businesses and homes for the national holidays. There is a fee for that service, and that fee helps fund the group’s various projects.
Also among their projects is Safety Town for preschoolers, which is conducted annually in conjunction with the Bellefontaine Police Department, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Safety Town was started in 1961.
Other projects include an Easter egg hunt, awarding of college scholarships, and focus on the prevention of child abuse.
The Bellefontaine Exchange Club meets each Tuesday for noon lunches at the American Legion building, 120 Colton Ave., Bellefontaine. New members are always welcome. Contact Bill Boy at (937) 592-6610 for additional information.
