The Bellefontaine Examiner’s coverage of a developer’s effort to build wind turbines in Logan and Hardin counties was nominated for two Associated Press Media Editor’s awards in the 2016 contest.
Staff writer Reuben Mees was nominated in Division II in the Best Enterprise Reporting category for the overall coverage of the EverPower Renewables project and a vote by Logan County Commissioners to deny the company’s request for a payment in lieu of taxes agreement. He also received a nomination in the Best Illustration or Informational Graphic for a map showing the location of the proposed wind turbines that appeared with two of the stories.
Mr. Mees has won several Associated Press awards for writing and photography during his 13 years with the Examiner, including three awards in the 2015 contest for second-place finishes for enterprise reporting and best spot news coverage and a third-place award in the Best News Writer category.
The awards in actual order of finish — first, second and third places — will be announced at the Ohio APME annual awards banquet May 21 in Columbus. The General Excellence and First Amendment winners also will be announced at the meeting.
Entries were judged by editors from the San Angelo (Texas) Standard-Times and the Cadillac (Michigan) News.
