Eugene “Gene” Brooks, 95 of Huntsville passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Logan Acres Senior Community.
Eugene was born December 21, 1925 in Belle Center to the late Jonas M. and Mae (Mains) Brooks. On September 11, 1948 in Kentucky he married the love of his life Doris A. Bickham, who survives.
Gene was a graduate of the Huntsville School in 1943. After school he was drafted in 1944 and honorably served in the 65th Infantry Unit in WWII-European theatre. He was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian church where he served as an elder for many years. Gene was an electrical contractor and the owner and operator of Brooks Electric for 35 years. Back in the day he enjoyed roller derby racing at the Indian Lake Rollarena. More recently he enjoyed woodworking and making chocolate chip cookies, mainly for the grandkids. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, step grandfather, step great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Doris A. Brooks; children, Steve (Peg) Brooks of North Carolina, Keith (Cheryl) Brooks of Florida and Susan (Bart) Green of Huntsville, OH; grandchildren, Keith (Dawne) Brooks, Shawn, Jesse and James Brooks, Jennifer (Brian) Slusher, Elizabeth (Steve) Fox, Jaime (Nick) Tucci, Carrie Connelly and Ryan Weber; great grandchildren, Kitty Brooks, Zachary Slusher, Jordan (Brooke) Slusher, Kyle and Allison Fox, Ashten Richards, Kayla Richards, Macy Green, Karis and William Connelly; great great grandchildren, Hayden and Jaxon Slusher; step grandchildren, Nick (Tori) Green, Dustin Green, Austin Green, Jessica (Mitchell) Rohrs ; step great grandchildren, Henry Rohrs, Kayleigh and Aaron Green; sister-in-law, Sharon Bickham; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Brooks; brothers, Bill, Walter, Ernest and Emory Brooks; sisters, Helen Brooks, Lois Jenkins and Katherine Graham;
A Gazebo Service will take place Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery-Gazebo, 5591 US Route 68 South, West Liberty, OH 43357.
