Bellefontaine High School Envirothon President Maggie Howard is interviewed by Austin Martin for the NBC 4 morning news about the recycling initiative conducted by the club during the Columbus Marathon Sunday. Envirothon led an effort to collect recyclable cardboard from the event to reduce waste. Students and staff also helped with trash collection and removal. The groups involved were each rewarded with a generous grant from Nationwide Insurance. Also at the Columbus Marathon, a total of 50 students and staff from Bellefontaine City Schools volunteered to help with various tasks, also including members of the BHS National Honor Society, BHS swim team, and BMS cross country team helped pass out snacks to runners as they crossed the finish line. Envirothon students were also invited to hold the finish line tape for the men’s, women’s, and wheelchair division winners.There were 2,388 runners in the full marathon, including three Bellefontaine residents. There were 6,270 runners in the half marathon, including eight from Bellefontaine. Bellefontaine City Schools has sent volunteers to the Columbus Marathon since 2013. (BCS PHOTO)
