Nine-year total for fundraiser now tops $350K
During a year when daily life has been affected by a pandemic, many individuals and groups in the community were still able to pull together their artistic talents and generous spirits to support the ninth annual Doors of EnCOURAGEment auction, which took place Sunday evening at the Logan County Fairgrounds.
Organizer Melody Couchman reports that the Sunday’s fundraising activities brought the nine-year grand total raised for the Logan County Cancer Society to just over $350,000.
This year’s auction generated a total of $26,000. Together with the entry fees paid for the doors by this year’s participants, the 2020 event raised a total of $43,000.
Couchman called the auction, “the perfect ending to an amazing event,” this year, for the outdoor display and auction that was moved from its previous dates in the spring as a result of concerns with the coronavirus.
“The weather was beautiful, the crowd was so supportive, the auction was fun and the wrap up of the 2020 Doors of EnCOURAGEment Event couldn’t have been any better,” she said via Facebook.
“So many, many thanks to everyone who helps make the entire event possible. Special thanks to those who choose to honor their loved ones by creating and supporting.
“To everyone that makes this success possible and assistance available, our sincere gratitude always!”
The organizer also expressed appreciation to the Logan County Fair Board, who made the event possible in the new show arena on the fairgrounds, where participants were able to space out and take their own seating if they wished.
The auction was conducted by Mick Lile and his crew.
The Logan County Cancer Society offers financial assistance to Logan County residents with a cancer diagnosis to cover expenses such as medication, equipment, supplies, wigs and other items, including gas cards to help with treatment-related travel costs. The Mary Rutan Foundation oversees the program.
