Riverside’s girls basketball team saw the lead slip away in the fourth quarter Tuesday as host Elgin pulled out a 33-30 non-league victory.
The Pirates slip to 1-5 on the season as the Comets improve to 3-2.
Elgin led 11-9 after the opening quarter, but the scoring slowed in the second quarter. The Pirates edged the Comets 4-2 which tied the game at 13-13 entering halftime.
Scoring continued to be at a premium in the third quarter as Riverside clipped Elgin 4-3. That allowed the Pirates to hold a 17-16 edge.
The Comets found a late spark as they outscored the Pirates 17-13 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
Marissa Davis led Riverside with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Aubrie Stillings also had nine points. Dana Jones chipped in six points.
Riverside hosts Benjamin Logan on Tuesday for a local non-league contest.
