Edward Earl “Big Ed” Zirkle, 68, of Cable, passed away at 3:47 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Bellefontaine on April 3, 1948, to the late Earl Zirkle and the late Everine Castle Dearwester.
On Dec. 3, 1966, Ed married the former Sheryl Kensler and she survives, along with their four children, Edward Earl (Tracey) Zirkle Jr., Chad Zirkle, Ada Mae Zirkle and Bart Zirkle; four grandchildren, Eric Zirkle, Courtney Zirkle, Brooke Zirkle and Adam Zirkle; five sisters, Jean (Mike) Young, Mary (Tom) Sanders, Connie Osborne, Lori (Chuck) Miranda and Bobbi Jo Zirkle; five brothers, Jeff (Elaine) Zirkle, Charlie (Kim) Clark, Clinton Zirkle, Kenny Zirkle and Michael Keaton; and many nieces and nephews.
A 1966 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, he was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who retired from Navistar in Springfield. He was a member of Firehouse Church and religion was an important part of his everyday life. Ed always enjoyed the time he spent with hunting, fishing and Local 402 Union buddies. He especially loved the time he spent with his family.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Ed’s son, Pastor Bart Zirkle, officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Goshen Friends Church, 5527 County Road 153, Zanesfield. Burial follows in East Liberty Cemetery with military rites by the Logan County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
