Trooper transported for treatment of injuries

UNION COUNTY — An intoxicated motorist reportedly struck an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser that was involved in a traffic stop Friday afternoon on State Route 347 in western Union County, and the impact of the crash sent a trooper to Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
Trooper Michael Austin, who had been standing next to the driver’s side window of the stopped vehicle at the time of the crash, was transported to the Marysville hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries, and reportedly was treated and released, troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.

Chad Wall, 42, of Lakeview, reportedly was operating a vehicle on S.R. 347 near East Liberty Road when he struck the rear of the cruiser. The impact of the crash reportedly pushed the cruiser into Trooper Austin and also into the stopped vehicle in the traffic stop.
The driver in the stopped vehicle, who was not identified, reportedly had minor injuries.
Wall was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and aggravated vehicular assault. He was lodged in the Tri-County Regional Jail.
