Coty Morrison, 31, of 318 N. Detroit St., Bellefontaine, and Taylor Higgins, 21, of 1600 Township Road 216, Bellefontaine, each was lodged in the Logan County Jail following a drug-related incident Sunday morning at the Comfort Inn, 260 Northview Drive.
Mr. Morrison was charged with felony counts of drug trafficking and possession of a schedule II drug, while Ms. Higgins was charged with a felony count of possession of a schedule II drug, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Officers responded to the motel about 4:30 a.m. on a report of a strong odor of marijuana coming from one of the hotel rooms.
When officers entered the motel, they observed that the odor was coming from room 149, and after knocking on the door, they were met by Mr. Morrison. He said he needed to speak to his wife, Amby Monroe, and closed the door.
Officers then observed through a window that Mr. Morrison was stuffing plastic bags inside his pants pocket.
Ms. Monroe reportedly allowed officers to enter the motel room. Mr. Morrison admitted to smoking two marijuana joints, and officers then observed a white powdery substance on a coffee table. He told them that his friend, Ms. Higgins, had snorted the substance.
Upon a search of Mr. Morrison’s person, officers recovered the plastic bags containing a white powdery substance and also a significant amount of cash, a cell phone and a driver’s license belonging to Ms. Higgins.
Ms. Higgins and several others soon arrived back at the motel in a vehicle. She denied “snorting pills” off the coffee table. Officers located three oxycodone hydrochloride pills in her purse, along with several other prescription medications and a snorting device.
The two defendants were placed under arrest, and a report was forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office regarding the incident.
