Hilbert E. Hassell Jr., 26, of 314 N. Park St., was charged Saturday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct.
He also was cited for a marked lanes violation, an improper turn, failure to control and driving onto curbs.
At 2:50 a.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed a sport utility vehicle stopped westbound in an alley in the 400 block of north Elm Street. It turned southbound making an extremely tight turn into the northbound lane. The SUV traveled onto a curb and over into the boulevard while continuingsouthbound in the northbound lane. Hassell also failed to stop for the stop sign at High Avenue.
A traffic stop was initiated and the officer reports Hassell had difficulty following instructions.
The officer detected an odor alcohol while talking with him. He also became agitated with the officer as field sobriety tests were conducted.
Another officer arrived and it took both to handcuff Hassell and place him in a cruiser as he tried to jerk away from them.
He eventually calmed down and provided a breathalyzer sample of 0.178.
Hassell was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Thomas D. Anderson Jr., 30, of 309 E. Sandusky Ave., was charged with OVI and cited for no headlights after a 12:35 a.m. traffic stop Saturday in the 200 block of west Sandusky Avenue.
Officers noted an odor of alcohol while speaking to him and observed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. He admitted to drinking beer and to using a device to use liquid marijuana.
However, his breathalyzer samples were well
below the limit for impairment. He was released to a sober friend.
