Trevor Zimmerman, 29, of Plain City, and Sarah Lee, 21, of Marysville, were pronounced dead at the scene by representatives of the Union County Coroner’s Office, deputies of the Union County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies and Jerome Township Fire Department personnel responded to the scene about 1:10 a.m. after receiving a cellular 911 call about a possible injury crash.
Authorities determined that a 1999 Jeep Wrangler driven by Mr. Zimmerman was “four-wheeling” in adjoining fields and attempted to cross the creek when it became lodged against an embankment.
The driver and his passenger, Ms. Lee, reportedly remained inside the jeep while waiting for a tow truck to arrive and free it. The vehicle’s exhaust pipe was submerged as it continued to idle.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will perform autopsies before the official causes of the deaths are determined.
Deputies were assisted by the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team.
The incident remains under investigation.
