Two people were charged with weapons violations during a 5:40 p.m. traffic stop Saturday.
De’Sean A. Ward, 21, at large, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Jackie Ann VanHorn, 22, of 1028 Heritage Court, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
They were in a station wagon traveling northbound on Troy Road without a front license plate, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report. VanHorn was driving with Ward in the front passenger seat with a backpack at his feet.
Ward was wanted on warrant for failure to appear, taken into custody and secured in a cruiser.
Officers then asked VanHorn if there were any guns, drugs or large amounts of cash in the book bag. She admitted her pistol was in the bag.
A loaded 9 mm handgun was recovered from the bag along with two containers with liquid THC.
