Kyle Barker, 45, of Saint Paris, was charged with possession of drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 3:30 p.m. on patrol in the area of State Route 235 and State Route 274 observed a light blue minivan traveling the roadway make several marked lanes violations. Officers performed a registration check on the Chrysler minivan, but the information came back to a 2002 silver Lexus.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, identifying the driver as Barker. While speaking with him, officers learned Barker was not a valid driver. Officers asked if there was anything illegal on his person or inside the vehicle and the defendant advised he had marijuana inside the vehicle.
A search was conducted and located inside a bookbag, officers located marijuana, a black tube with marijuana buds inside it, and a clear glass jar containing a white crystal substance, which that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.
Barker was placed under arrest and transported to Logan County Jail. Once at the jail, he reportedly begin to fight with corrections officers and had to be placed in a restraint chair.
The defendant also was a cited for failure to drive within marked lanes, and driving under suspension. There may be other charges pending.
