CLARK COUNTY — A Springfield man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on U.S. Route 40 in Clark County that also sent several area residents to the hospital, troopers of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
Gary L. Preston, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was operating a southbound car on Upper Valley Pike in Clark County when he reportedly failed to stop for a red light about 7:30 p.m. His vehicle was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound pickup operated by Douglas E. Maddy, 57, of Zanesfield.
Mr. Maddy was treated at the scene, and his front seat passenger, Lynney M. Maddy, 53, of Zanesfield, and three juvenile passengers each was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash reportedly closed U.S. 40 for approximately three hours.
Troopers were assisted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Township Fire and EMS.
