Dennis A. Bensman, 69, of 10222 County Road 54, Lewistown, was charged Thursday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after his westbound pickup truck hit the rear of Amish hay wagon on County Road 13 near State Route 235 around 7:35 p.m.
Vistor S. Wagler, 35, of rural DeGraff, was thrown from the horse drawn wagon but landed uninjured on feet while his sons, Victor, 7, and John, 12, remained on the wagon also without injuries. The father was able to control the horses which were not injured, according to deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Bensman admitted to drinking whiskey but refused to participate in sobriety tests. Deputies noted an odor of alcohol on his breath as they talked to him and observed signs he was impaired including unsteadiness as he walked and attempted to fill out a statement while holding a pen upside down.
Bensman also was issued a traffic citation for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
Damage to the pickup was heavy while the wagon sustained light damage.
Father accused of providing marijuana to daughter
Benjamin J.P. Rush, 37, of 11322 Kootenay Path, Lakeview, was charged Thursday with felony corrupting another with drugs. He allegedly provided marijuana to his 14-year-old daughter who lives with grandparents, deputies report.
Driver uninjured in crash
Eric N. Simpson, 58, of Lakeview, was issued a traffic citation for failure to control after a 1:40 a.m. crash Friday on U.S. Route 33 near State Route 292.
Deputies report he was westbound in a car and traveled off the right side of the highway, hitting an exit sign and cable restraint fence before coming to a rest in a ditch along the eastbound lanes.
Simpson was not injured but the car sustained heavy damage.
