Nathaniel Haddix, 26, of Urbana, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash early Sunday morning on County Road 18.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 2:40 a.m. to the area of C.R. 18 near County Road 43 in reference to a reported crash, with a witness stating that the male driver appeared to be intoxicated.
When they arrived at the scene, deputies located Haddix standing outside a vehicle, and noted that he appeared to be very unsteady on his feet. He reportedly fell to the ground and then just laid on the ground for a minute while deputies were approaching the vehicle and speaking with dispatch.
The defendant admitted to deputies that he was intoxicated and said he was trying to get home to Urbana. In reference to the crash, he said he wasn’t exactly sure what happened, but that he had passed out, and then the next thing he knew, his vehicle was skidding out of control.
Macochee EMS personnel responded to the scene and checked Haddix, but he did not require any medical transport.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests, and then was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to take a urine test. He also was cited for driving under suspension and failure to control and was released to a sober party.
