Keith Duane Lewis, 26, of Jackson Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a traffic stop about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol in the area of State Route 274 and County Road 61 observed a vehicle traveling the road at a high rate of speed. As officers turned to attempt a traffic stop, they noticed the vehicle swerving in and out of its lane of travel.
During the stop, officers made contact with the driver, Lewis, and detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. Lewis was asked out of the vehicle and officers observed he was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
The defendant failed field sobriety testing, was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a breath sample, with a result of 0.201 blood alcohol content. Lewis also was cited for speed.
