Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report James A. Johnson, 38, was operating the southbound car on U.S. Route 68 near Township Road 190 about 1:50 p.m. His car drove left of center and struck the northbound bus, operated by David L. Deskins, 68, of Urbana.
The impact sent the bus off the left side of the road into a concrete stone post.
The school bus driver was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries. A bus aid on the school bus, Brooke N. Perry, 40, of Urbana, was transported by Macochee squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. She was previously incorrectly identified as a passenger in the car.
Seat belt use by Johnson is unknown.
Deputies continue to investigate the crash, and suspect that Johnson was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, with test results pending.
Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. U.S. 68 was closed for a period Tuesday afternoon while the accident scene was cleared.
A Bellefontaine squad also responded to the scene.
