Doris Levon Knox Wessel, 96, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021, in Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine.
She was born in North Lewisburg on Sept. 26, 1924, the daughter of the late Levi H. and Della (Greg) Spain.
On April 16, 1940, she married Pearl L. Knox, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1982. On Nov. 3, 1979, she married Frederick Wessel and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1995.
She is survived by six daughters, Della Scott, Sharon (Jerry) Hoge, Patricia Pinks, Juanitta Perdue, Carol (Jim) Simpson, Kimberly Knox, and three sons, Michael Knox, Randy (Terri) Knox, and Kermit Knox, two daughters-in-law, Joni Knox and Melissa Knox, 37 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two sons, Pearl Leroy Knox, Jr. and Arthur Eugene “Doody” Knox, three grandchildren, Albert Yeager, Travis Knox, and Dori Thomas, three great grandchildren, Lucas Heath, Lindsey Heath, and Clerissa Grow, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle & John Isaacs, Juanita & Charles Keeran, and Veran & George Morgan, and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Carl & Helen Spain and Jake Spain.
In addition to raising her 11 children, she was also the neighborhood mother to many other children. She enjoyed playing Euchre, fishing, and deer hunting. She loved her large family and enjoyed keeping up to date with each and every one of her family members.
Pastor Carl Spain, her nephew, will officiate a funeral service on Thursday, March 18, at 11 a.m. in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
