Donald C. Bayliss, 87, of Columbus and formerly of Rushsylvania, passed away at 8:59 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Dublin Methodist Hospital.
He was born in Rushsylvania on March 6, 1929, to the late Fred E. and Hazel B. Jacobs Bayliss. He was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Harvey Terrill; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thurman and Juanita Bayliss, Fred and Alice Bayliss and Robert “Bob” Bayliss.
On Aug. 21, 1961, he married the former Mary Margaret Best, and she survives, along with their daughter, Suzanne “Suzie” (Ignacio “Nacho” “Iggy”) Garcia; three grandchildren, Dante (Malissa) Garcia, Marquelle (Jake) Tomasi and Giovanni “Givi” Garcia, who was nicknamed by his Pappa; four great-grandchildren, Ashton, Madden, Milano and Liliana; a sister-in-law, Martha Boysel Bayliss; and many nieces and nephews.
A member of the Rushsylvania United Presbyterian Church, he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education from Ohio Northern University in 1963. He taught at Indian Lake, Bellefontaine and most recently at Benjamin Logan Middle School, where he taught art. His hobbies included singing, gardening and decorating.
A funeral service begins at noon Friday, Jan. 13, at the Rushsylvania United Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Sandusky Street and Miami Road, Rushsylvania. Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church Friday. Burial follows in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
