David Michael Montgomery, 72, passed in Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky., on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, into the presence of his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Savonna Kay Stewart Montgomery.
Mike was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Upland, Calif., a son of the late Rev. John H. and Lucille Sparks Montgomery. He was a retired licensed plumber, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Roundhead EMS for many years. Mike was also preceded in death by a brother, John Emmitt Montgomery; a sister, Ruth Elinor Dulaney; stepmother, Darlene Nolan Montgomery; and father- and mother -in-law, Paul Cameron and Katherine Curry Stewart.
In addition to his loving wife, he also is survived by a son, Michael Allen Montgomery of Sidney; two daughters, Mona (Gary) Gordin of Urbana and Shelly (Jon) Prater of Belle Center; two two sisters, Janice (Olan) Harvey of Albany and Nina (Sterling) Crum of Ashland, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Nick (Candice) Carano, Lindsay (Kyle) Foster, Austin Newlove, Tabitha (Trevor) Brisson, Alex (Shilyn) Montgomery, Gabriella Cole, Kayla (Thomas) Steinberger, Justine Prater and Jase Prater; two great-grandsons, Jensen and Sorren Cole; a special sister-in-law, Marie (Bob) Montgomery Moore; a brother-in-law, Paul D. (Nella) Stewart; mother-in-law, Mary Cooper Stewart; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Preston Family Funeral Home, Ashland, Ky., where visitation begins at 10 a.m. Pastor David Higgins officiates.
Interment with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Ceredo Kenova Post 93 Honor Guard follows at 1 p.m. in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, Argillite, Ky.
