David Lee Groves, 66, of North Lewisburg, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, in Eaglewood Village, Springfield, with his family.
He was born Sept. 10, 1949, in North Lewisburg, a son of the late John and Ora Higgins Groves.
A 1968 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, David proudly served in the United States Army as a combat medic during the Vietnam War, receiving the AAR medal. He retired from Honda after 20 years of service. He then went to work for Kamp-A-Lott campground working in maintenance.
David enjoyed hunting and was a member of Ohio Big Bucks Club. He loved his family and friends and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
David is survived by his wife, Brenda Short Groves; his children, Hollie (Dustin Newland) Groves of Marysville, Jamie (Jeff) Perkins of West Mansfield, Clint (Heather) Groves of North Lewisburg and Tony (Mindy) Groves of Woodstock; his grandchildren, Taylor Holtsberry, Tanner and Avery Perkins, Nevah Winn and Carson and Ashton Groves; his siblings, Delores (Frank) Hamm of Bellefontaine, Maggie (Gary) Cron of Florida, Jimmy Barnhart of Urbana, Bill (Lavelle) Groves of Michigan and Walter (Jeanie) of Marysville; several nieces and nephews, including Matt and Kiesha Warner; great- nieces and nephews, including Zach and Jacob Warner; and his beloved dog, Bug.
He also was preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Sylvia Short; sisters-in law, Janie Barnhart and Mary Blanton; and his niece, Ashley Campbell.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, in Freshwater, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, North Lewisburg, where Paul Mills officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10. Burial follows in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg.
