David F. Weatherby, 80, of West Mansfield, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born Dec. 16, 1935, in Logan County, he was a son of the late William J. and Martha C. (Oder) Weatherby. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gary and Bill; and his brothers-in-laws, Roger Paul, Gene Graham and Bob Comer.
On June 10, 1956, at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, he married Velva R. Epps and she survives. Also surviving is a son, David Scott (Judy) Weatherby of Dublin; grandchildren, Stacy Bell and Dustin and Jordan Weatherby; great-grandchildren, Piersen, Callaghn and Teegan Bell; a brother, Harry “Hank” (Linda) Weatherbyof Raymond; his sisters, Twila Paul and Nila Graham of West Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews.
A 1954 graduate of Bokescreek Local High School, David attended Bowling Green State University and went on to work as an industrial engineer supervisor with D.A.B and later Glacier. A member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the West Mansfield Lion’s Club and past president of the West Mansfield Conservation Club and West Mansfield Alumni. A lover of horses and horse racing, he was member of the U.S. Trotting Association, was inducted into the Ben Logan hall of fame for his 30 years as a scoreboard operator and time keeper and was a member of the OHSAA.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 2, at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Thompson officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date.
