Darlene Sue McFarlin, 80, of Bellefontaine and formerly of East Liberty, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 with her loving family by her side.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and playing board games. A faithful member of the Marysville Church of the Nazarene, she served as Missionary President for 40 years and was active in the Sunday school classes with her husband.
A 1958 graduate of Belle Center High School, she worked in the cafeteria at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center for 20 years, retiring in 1998.
Born December 28, 1940 in Roundhead, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Plummer) McMillen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Penhorwood.
On May 26, 1961 in Belle Center, she married her husband of over 60 years, Ernest McFarlin and he survives in Bellefontaine. Darlene is also survived by a daughter, Laura (Bill) Roth of McArthur; a son-in-law, Kurt (Jenny) Penhorwood of Zanesfield; grandchildren, Brock, Bryden, Mataya and Karlie Penhorwood, Logan Roth, Nathalie and Katie Thompson; a great grandson, Obadiah Penhorwood; a brother, Larry (Kay) McMillen of DeGraff and a sister, Penny (Earl) Hawke of Urbana, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, at the Marysville Church of the Nazarene, 1126 N. Maple St., Marysville. Pastor Paul Mills will officiate and burial will follow at the East Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 18, at the church and again, prior to the service on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. COVID precautions will be encouraged at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to Nazarene Missionary International or Gideon’s International. Envelopes will be available at the church.
