Updated traffic lights seem to run smoothly

Four months of operation has not shown any major problems with Bellefontaine’s updated traffic signal system.
There are tweaks that have occurred and more may be on the way, but the state project has accomplished its stated goal of getting traffic through and around the downtown.
“We don’t hear a lot and that’s a good thing,” said Service-Safety Director James Holycross. “When we do hear something, generally it takes the tone of ‘Hey that’s different.’”
City Engineer Tim Notestine said, “I’m not sure yet.
Some parts are better, but there are parts that still need to be looked at.
“Areas we asked them to really look at was Sandusky Avenue and Main Street and Sandusky and Madriver Street.
There are less backups on Main and westbound traffic flow on Sandusky has improved greatly especially during the peak traffic time of 3 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, he said.
But now there are longer backups in the eastbound lanes of Sandusky between Main and Madriver.
