Dustin J. Orsborne, 39, of 7701 W. Township Road 30, DeGraff, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash about 7:20 p.m. Friday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a westbound pickup on Township Road 30 near County Road 187 when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a barbed wire fence. Damage was heavy to the pickup, and it was towed from the scene.
A caller reported to sheriff’s office dispatchers observing that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel of the vehicle, but appeared to be breathing. Deputies along with Macochee EMS and West Liberty Fire Department responded to the scene.
Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed medical personnel yelling at Orsborne to put down a lighter, as a smell of gas had been observed. He was able to exit the passenger side of the vehicle, but appeared unsteady on his feet, deputies said.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies observed that his pupils were pinpoint and that he was sweating excessively, despite the temperature of 41 degrees outside. He told deputies he had passed out while driving, and claimed that he had not taken any prescription or street drugs.
Orsborne submitted to field sobriety tests, but was unable to complete all of the testing because he complained of being dizzy. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a urine test, with test results pending.
He also was cited for failure to control. Deputies report the defendant had previous OVI convictions in 2002 and 2008.
