David B. Russell, 58, of 544 E. Columbus Ave., was charged Sunday with domestic violence.
Around 2:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the residence and met with the suspect. His stepdaughter Tyralee Large and her husband Richard returned to the home to speak with officers.
Police learned that Russell had kicked Tyralee’s mother out of the home after the woman was diagnosed with cancer. The Larges were there to retrieve her mother’s property.
Russell, who had been drinking alcohol, allegedly came at them with a knife and stabbed at the radiator of their sport utility vehicle. Officers observed fresh scrape marks on the vehicle’s grill.
Russell was arrested and lodged in jail.
Motorist charged after vehicle check
Edwin A. Ford, 42, of 113 E. Auburn Ave., was charged Saturday with tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia and served a warrant for failure to appear.
Around 8:45 p.m., officers encountered him and Sady Young, of Bellefontaine, in a parked sports utility vehicle on Walker Street south Jay Avenue.
A records check showed neither had a valid driver’s license. Ford also was wanted on the failure to appear warrant.
He was taken into custody on the warrant and officers began the process of impounding his vehicle for repeatedly driving without a license.
As part of the pre-tow inventory, officers found a set of keys on a lanyard, a pipe used for smoking crack cocaine and a push rod for packing the pipe on the ground by the SUV. Ford admitted trying to discard the items when officers pulled up to check on him.
Young was released without charges.
