A Bellefontaine couple were lodged in the Logan County Jail Sunday after allegedly assaulting a neighbor.
Brandy K. Newcomb, 40, and Steve A. Manahan, 41, each was charged with misdemeanor assault. Manahan also was charged with felony aggravated burglary.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report the couple were outside their 323 Shady Lane Drive apartment around 2:25 a.m. loudly arguing in the parking lot.
Amanda K. Waller and Matthew W. Kelly, both of 327 Shady Lane, came out to check if anyone needed assistance. According to Waller, Newcomb came up the stairs, turned toward Waller rather than the opposite direct to Newcomb’s residence and reportedly attacked Waller.
Waller and Kelly fended off Newcomb’s attack and attempted to close their front door but Manahan shoved the door open. He alleged struck Waller in the face.
Waller and Kelly were able to force him out and secure the door. Manahan continued to beat on the door with his fists splitting open a knuckle on his left hand.
Officers noted Newcomb and Manahan were extremely drunk at the time.
Death under investigation
Authorities are investigating the Friday death of Justin E. Beair, 39, who was found around 11:35 a.m. by his mother in his bedroom at their shared 320 Walnut St. residence.
He was found not breathing and turning purple. Bellefontaine squad members were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at Mary Rutan Hospital.
The Logan County Coroner’s Office is investigating, police report. Beair’s body was sent to Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
