Preston H. Singleton, 35, and Danielle Singleton, 32, both at large, were charged Friday for thefts of hoverboards and food.
They allegedly took $36 in food from The Kroger Co., 2129 S. Main St., using Danielle’s 13-year-old son to push the cart of groceries out of the store around 11 a.m. They claim they regularly send the boy in alone to shop for groceries.
Preston was a suspect in a Dec. 26 theft from Walmart, 2281 S. Main St. Officers found four hoverboards with a total value of around $1,000 in the couple’s van. After denying the items were stolen, he admitted taking the merchandise from Walmart.
Danielle claimed the hoverboards were a gift from her mother.
The husband was charged with theft, obstructing official business and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while the wife was charged with complicity to theft, obstructing official business and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Children in the van were released to the custody of relatives, while the Singletons were lodged in jail.
