Burk seeks early release from 3-year prison term
As an overweight, aging amputee who used a motorized chair, Steven L. Burk did not look the part of a drug dealer.
It was an outward appearance that served him well and hid a persona of a man willing to trade heroin for stolen goods.
Investigators worked about a year setting up buys, executing search warrants, arresting the man and rearresting him before he was sentenced last August to three years in prison.
On the afternoon of March 29, the 68-year-old Madison Correctional Institution inmate will be back in Logan County Common Pleas Court asking Assigned Judge Mark S. O’Connor for early release after serving just eight months.
The Logan County Prosecutor’s Office has expressed its opposition, first during an initial hearing March 8 and then in a same-day written motion.
“Based on the multiple convictions and the seriousness of these offenses, the State (sic) hereby opposes this judicial release,” Assistant Prosecutor Daniel H. Huston wrote in the filing.
