A 78-year-old Bellefontaine resident reportedly has died as a result of injuries she sustained in a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on U.S. Route 33 at County Road 37.
Twila A. Howell was taken by Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
Troopers said a 1999 Ford F-250 operated by David F. Downing, 74, also of Bellefontaine, was southwest-bound on C.R. 37 about 4:10 p.m. when he failed to yield and was struck by a 2013 Buick Regal traveling eastbound on U.S. 33. The Buick car then struck a 2015 Honda Pilot that was stopped at a stop sign on C.R. 37 facing northeast at the intersection.
Ms. Howell, a passenger in the Downing pickup, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.
Mr. Downing, the Pilot’s driver, Natasha L. Mears, 40, of Lima, and the Regal’s operator Kristi M. Jones, 30, of Cable, each was transported by squad to MRH with non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers were also assisted by Huntsville Fire and EMS, Indian Lake EMS and a MedFlight helicopter.
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
It is the third fatal crash in Logan County this year.
