Bellefontaine City Council’s Rules Committee is preparing an ordinance that would allow medical marijuana facilities in limited zoning areas throughout the city.

The issue, however, must first proceed through City Council before becoming law, a process that will likely take at least six weeks to two months.
Medical marijuana has already been approved by an act of the Ohio Legislature and the state’s program is expected to begin later this year.
The Rules Committee decided at a Tuesday afternoon meeting to ask Law Director Josh Stolly to draft a change to the city’s zoning ordinance that would allow only medical marijuana facilities in the M2, or general manufacturing, district.
“I think that’s the most logical solution,” Councilman Allen Hadley said. “I don’t want to see it downtown or in the neighborhoods, but I don’t think we should deny it altogether either.”
