Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan competed at the OHSAA Southwest District Swimming Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Dayton and Cincinnati. More than 2,700 swimmers competed at the two-day meet.
Two local standouts were able to reach the finals as the Chieftains’ Amy Fulmer and the Raiders’ Macy Arn both advanced. Fulmer qualified in three events and Arn advanced in two events.
The prelims were conducted at nine different locations around the area with the top 16 overall swimmers advancing to the finals on Sunday at St. Xavier High School in the Keating Natatorium in Cincinnati.
Amy Fulmer won her preliminary race in the 50 freestyle and took second in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle to advance to the final in all three events.
In the finals, Fulmer placed third in the 100 backstroke with a new school-record time of 57.52 and was fourth in the 50 freestyle. She chose not to compete in the 100 freestyle.
“I was so proud of Amy for the work she put in this weekend,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “She was swimming sore, but didn’t give an inch. She is a strong competitor and races to win no matter what.
“Great things are ahead for her and the rest of our team. Many swimmers worked through events they are not used to and held their own. We get to play to our strengths soon as Central Buckeye Conference is only two weeks away.”
