Charles D. Johns Sr., 89, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Bellefontaine, to the late Horace and Erma Allen Johns.
Charles served proudly in the United States Army during World War II as a paratrooper. He later retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation as a mechanic at the Sidney garage.
Charles also was a faithful and lifelong member of the Hi-Point Church of Christ, where he had served many different positions.
Survivors include son, Charles D. (Regina) Johns Jr.; daughter, Kathy (David) Alkire; grandchildren, David (Kara) Alkire, Michael (Jenny) Alkire, Charles Alkire, Christopher Johns, Doug (Heather) Johns, Melissa Ginn and Bill Johns; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Johns; niece, Cindy Johns Powell; nephew, Dwight Johns; son-in-law, Jeff Skaggs; former daughter in-law, Kim Johns.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 2000; and daughters, Sandra Johns and Deborah A. Skaggs.
Charles loved watching the Cincinnati Reds baseball and The Ohio State University football. He enjoyed visiting the local fairs and festivals around the county, and had a deep love for his family.
Pastor Mike Sandlin officiates a funeral at noon Thursday, April 28, at Jennings Farley Funeral Home & Crematory, 5591 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty, with visitation two hours prior. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
